Walls are going up!

When I walked into the house yesterday I was pleasantly surprised by two things.

1) The house didn’t smell as bad as usual. It smelled like construction and fresh wood. Kind of like it smells when you walk into Lowe’s or Home Depot. The house used to have an “old” smell. It’s much better now.

2) The new walls have been framed. Hence the better smell. Yay!

So this view is from the living room. That’s the doorway into the hall that will take you to the girls’ rooms, their bathroom, and the laundry room. I know it’s hard to see. It will be easier when the dry wall goes up.

This is the door into the laundry room. The laundry room also has an exterior door that leads out the left side of the house.

We plan on putting a barn door on the laundry room. I didn’t want a swinging door because a) the door would always be open and b) it would just take up space.

Here’s an example from Chic Coles. I plan on painting it a bold color, but I’m not sure what color quite yet.

Since the laundry room has an exterior door and is right next to the girls’ rooms, we plan on including some mud room storage in there.

This example from bizbudgetdesigns is what we have in mind. It will be a place for the girls to hang backpacks, pool towels, and store shoes. That will take up the right side of the laundry room and the left side will be the machines, sink, and counter.

This is the view looking down the new hall. This is as if you are walking out of the girls’ rooms and towards the rest of the house.

This is the new pantry. I’m so excited. We haven’t had a walk in pantry before. It’s not like you can walk in that far. It’s still small, but it’s the biggest one we’ve ever had. We plan on using a french door with glass and I’m even putting a fancy light inside. Donnie isn’t feeling the light, but he’s picking his battles. :)

Last but not least, they have started to pull the back wall down. We have measured and planned. We will have three windows and three sets of french doors making up the back wall. We have decided on full plate glass with no grid. Donnie prefers not having grid. That’s fine. I’ll let him pick the windows so I can pick the lights.
