An apple a day...

For Mother's Day my request was that my hubby take the girls to their cheer leading practice. This would allow me about 2.5 hours of un-interrupted time to complete the family room panels. Request granted!

Here is a before picture of the back window wall. I didn't try to jazz it up. You can see all the kids toys in the backyard like they usually are.

I've had my eye on these apple green panels from Z gallerie, but I didn't want to spend that kind of money.

I found this fabric at JoAnn's for 50% off. It came in at $10/yard and is just the look I was going for. You can see my little helper laying out the fabric for cutting.

These rods and rings came from Lowe's. It's pretty hard to find these short decorative rods (at least I didn't know where to get them). I had given up looking for them and figured I would have to make my own when I stumbled across this one. Perfect!

I wasn't in the mood to sew, so I used hem tape to finish up the edges. This was pretty easy. The only mishap I had was burning a small patch of fabric by having the iron turned up too high.

Since my hubby is so handy, normally I make (or buy) the things and I have him install them. This time I decided to install the rods myself. Big mistake.

I got one up, but when I got to the second I wasn't able to drill the screws in all the way. I was hitting metal. Turns out I had to wait for my husband after all. I think I'll stick to our old way of doing things. He makes it look easy because he's so quick and it always turns out well. I ended up screwing up the paint, dropping a rod on my toe, and still had to have him finish it. :)

So this is the first one I completed. You can see that it's too short. I ended up moving that panel all the way to the left since the dog bed will hide it.

This is the completed look. I love it! I love the color and I love how it makes the room look taller.

You can see the apple green garden stool in the lower right. I picked that up at World Market. It was half the price of the one from Ballard Designs.

So this was a big success! I was able to knock it out pretty quickly and it looks even better than I expected.
